Happy New Year from the Moody Ques!

Happy New Year everyone!

We had a cooks meeting tonight – Frank, Erik, Dusty plus President Clay, Treasurer Misty, and PR Director Paul – and sorted a few things out for 2017. First and foremost is that we will NOT be raising dues this year. It’s going to be $350 individual, $500 couple (must be an established, real-life couple), same as 2016, going up to $400 individual/$550 couple on April 1. Memphis in May is raising fees in almost every category this year but we have decided not to pass those costs on to our members. The PayPal widget is now active on the website for your 2017 dues payment (see the right sidebar, bottom of the page if on mobile). Prefer to pay cash for your dues? No problem, call Misty at 901-337-1046.

  • That being said, we do have to write a rather large check to Memphis in May mid-February! If you are financially flexible, or if you received Christmas money and don’t have a destination for it, you would help the team out a lot if you paid your dues early.

The cooks also decided they want to commit to the same three regional festivals as last year – Atoka (March 31), Southaven Springfest (late April), and Senatobia (late May). We hauled in some trophies and prize money at these in 2016, and every chance Frank and Erik get to present their entries to a judge is valuable. Winning regionals is the path to becoming a big dog team at BBQ Fest.

We are always looking for good people who want to be part of our BBQ family, so if you know of someone who would be a good fit as a team member send them our way. Thanks everyone and happy 2017! We will be in touch again soon.

Best Memphis Burger Fest 2016 photos

Sorry I’m a bit late getting this up. Google did away with Picasa and it took me several weeks to find a replacement.

In addition to Moody Ques photos, there are some photos of our neighbors Weekend at Porky’s and one of a lobster roll I had from Sushi Jimmi :)

Best Memphis Burger Fest results are in!

Out of 39 teams…

Bloody Mary – 5th place
Veggie Burger – 13th place
Specialty Burger – 21st place
Best Memphis Burger – 12th place
Overall – 13th place

No trophies but a top third finish is not bad at all! I took some pictures and will try to get them online later this week. Thanks to all the team members who braved the heat Sunday!

Moody Ques competing in Best Memphis Burger Fest Sunday

The Moody Ques will be competing in Best Memphis Burger Fest this coming Sunday, August 28. The festival is at Tiger Lane from 10:30 AM to 6 PM. We will be turning in entries for Bloody Mary, Veggie Burger, Anything-Goes Specialty Burger, and Traditional Cheeseburger.

If you’re standing at East Parkway looking toward the Liberty Bowl, our team booth is in the left-hand lane, on the left side, third from East Parkway. You could think of it as “Burgers with Friends,” because several teams we know well will be nearby. Weekend at Porky’s will be our next door neighbors. Across the lane from us will be Squeal Street BBQ and Cowboyardee (Memphis Flyer team). Three doors down from us will be the award-winning Fabulous Burger Boys (many of whom compete with Porkosaurus at BBQ Fest).

Throughout the day we will be cooking sliders and feeding them to the public, in exchange for a suggested donation to Memphis Paws, a nonprofit that promotes responsible pet ownership and which provides funding for rescues and pet-related organizations around Memphis.

It’s $10 to get in, also benefiting Memphis Paws. There’s also a $50 VIP ticket that includes an air-conditioned, shaded, covered area, catered food from noon to 2, a T-shirt, poster, souvenir cup and some other goodies.

The event is kid-friendly, with sponsor Jack Pirtle’s providing a Kidzone where your kids can enjoy themselves. There’s a pickle-eating contest kids can enter at 1 PM.

If you want something other than burgers, there will be six food trucks, including MemPops, Joy Ride, Sushi Jimmi, Rawk’n Grub, Kona Ice, and Soul Pig. Live music by The Fast Mothers at noon, Frankie Hollie & the Noise at 2, and Allen, Mack, Myers, Moore at 3:30. If you’re good at cornhole, there will be a tournament at 1.

Burger Fest is a qualifying event for the World Food Championships, so if we do well, we could find an extra food fest on our calendar later this year.

We hope to see you Sunday! Any questions, let us know.
